DescriptionI'm enthralled with the title page DPS that Mike Perkins has produced for Ram V's recently concluded Swamp Thing run. The team has dedicated valuable time and real estate to these wonderfully expressive concepts that help set the tone for the issue ahead. The hand lettering works ingeniously to keep the image grounded in the realm of comic art and sequential movement, and allows for the wonderful experimentation. This artist takes a great deal of pride in a job executed the way it should be executed. All this and more was born out in the great Mike Perkins retrospective and Q&A that Rubén DC put out in 2 parts on YouTube yesterday. Nice work! Social/Sharing |

Say hey!
Cha!
Fear the cells of alien brain
Pencilled down like an armageddon flame (hey!)
Insane, the art with lines that entertain
Hear the dogs howling war Ram V
To a hymn penned from the mystery (hey!)
Intrigue, the aliens launched their war today, and
Oh I beg to dream as reader of the twisted vines
This is the drawing for the wash with the lines (whoa, oh, whoa, oh)
On holiday!
Hear Perkins pounding out deadlines
Another Hal Jordan has crossed this time (hey!)
To find that Levi talks to other side
Can I get another amen? (Amen!)
Double page warps the brains of score of men (hey!)
A page, a double page on a monument
Oh I beg to dream as Levi of all our desires
This run be shining for the rest of our lives (whoa, oh, whoa, oh)
Oh celebrate!

Another stellar (interstellar!) title splash from a very special issue of this modern horror fairy tale. This splash is like a thesis statement for the whole issue - that alien idea - in one image. Such an great composition! I'm so glad so many of these title splashes live in your gallery, M L. Plus I love the fact that the thumbnail of the piece looks like something you'd come across on a Beanworld chowraid. :) Hoka Hey! Congrats again, M L.

Fabulous design in this title DPS! I sure hope Perkins's next project is as well suited to his style as Swamp Thing has been, and that the writing is as inspired. Here's to him finding more oppotunities for this level of creativity and craft

I really love that Ram & Mike used the entire series to pay homage to the Alan Moore run multiple times, starting with The Anatomy Lesson in the 2-part Future State story and coming full circle here with his homage to Loving the Alien from Saga of the Swamp Thing #60. Mike really did a bang up job here!
