DescriptionIn honor of the next Comic At Live Chat and Sales show with Fred Hembeck, here's a Hembeck 2008 recreation of John Byrne and Terry Austin's Fantastic Four #236 from 1981! Fred wasn't too faithful as She-Hulk and Shang-Chi were subbed out in favor of Marie Severin, John Byrne, Fred Hembeck, and Jack Kirby. It's an All In kind of piece and Kirby fans should understand that it absolutely has got great Kirby/Byrne/Austin/Hembeck/Dragotta energy! Dragotta be kidding me with how cool this is! Additional pics for scale as this is 14" x 17". Some say the show is October 27, 2024, others say October 28, or November 27, and some say it already happened. Who knows? I just like that this has Agatha Harkness on it because the future of the MCU hinges on her and her alone with the double episode finale October 30th. Good luck to everyone on the Hembeck drop! There he goes Their knees swirls again Racing through my brain Nostalgia can't contain This feelin' that remains There he knows There it shows again Byrne is too insane In my art Fred contains This Austin feel remains There's his show I'm too slow again He calls my name, pulls my claim No one else could heal my pain Bids I just can't complain Free wheelin' chat remains There Bill goes IX con to blame Sunday drops he brings And Bill Cox can't contain This love for Fred remains There he goes (There knee swirls again) There he goes (There knee swirls again) There he goes (There knee swirls again) Social/Sharing |

A fantastically detailed cover to have Hembeck homage, back when he was willing to take commission orders for recreations and at giveaway prices. It's the bee's knees! Or is that Hembeck's knees?

Holy Hembeck! Not since Reed and Sue's wedding has there been a more august assemblage of super-powered celebrators! Seeing Hembeck recreations pop up (when you didn't even know they existed, previously) is among the most intense feelings of OA bliss I encounter (seriously) and Fred absolutely destroys one of my -very- favorite covers from my youth. (In a good way :) ) In typical Hembeck fashion, Fred sows some lovely gags from the seeds Byrne laid down: from character-accurate giggles (Luke Cage's unimpressed detachment, Wolverine's flat-out eye-rolling, Kitty's swooning, Johnny Storm's confident certainty that everyone has shown up to celebrate -him-) to the delight of even -seeing- Fred's take on some characters (great call out on Agatha's inclusion here, and Willy Lumpkin is also awesome) this is an absolutely thrilling Hembeck add, Marcus - this melts my brain. MEGA-congrats! This is spectacular!

Wow! What a jawdroppng Fred Hembeck recreation! I've always loved the original cover for all the characters John Byrne managed to include there. And I admire Fred Hembeck for tackling a recreation this huge. But he way outdid what I would have expected. Lots of interesting additions within the piece. I'm glad he added in Kirby and Byrne and...Is that Fred Hembeck himself? But overall, I admire how all the characters have that Hembeck-ian look--The sneer on Johnny Storm's face, the cheesy grin on Thor, the wide-eyed look on Spider-Man's mask, I could go on and on. It's simply the best Hembeck ever! And a wonderful pick-up, congrats!
