The Call of Norhala

Stephen's second commission for me, based upon a pencil sketch from his IX Gallery show back in March 2018.

The painting is based upon the fantasy novel "The Metal Monster" by Abraham Merritt; first serialized in Argosy Magazine in 1920, and then published as a book in 1946 and then numerous times thereafter by various publishers. The story is in public domain now and is available on several sites, including Project Gutenberg.

Merritt was considered by Isaac Asimov to be the most famous of fantasy writers (though he is little known today), and Stephen King thought enough of the novel to mention it in his book, Danse Macabre.
