Description

Frank Robbins and Vince Colletta's Fear #28 page 14 (Marvel Comics, 1975). Morbius, Marvel's proprietary vampire-character, enters a mystic portal in an old haunted house that takes him to an aspect of Hell ruled by a many-eyed monster (The magazine also is known as Adventure into Fear.) Writer for this issue is Doug Moench. Fear writer Bill Mantlo christened the female vamp in honor of British horror-movie star Martine Beswick and British scare-show character Edmond Bancroft, from Horrors of the Black Museum. Robbins' dizzying panel compositions and eccentric anatomical foreshortenings are enhanced by a bold-stroke job of brush-inking by Colletta, who achieves almost a Jack Kirby-style appearance. Ink over graphite on bristol board. Image area, 10" x 15". Slight toning. Tape is used to secure the Iron Man promotional blurb and page number in the lower margins, slightly affecting the bottom edge of the art in the lower panels.

Sick page. The brush style of ink is such a glorious thing to see. Id say its almost a dying form. Almost. But this is one marvelous page. Congrats!
