DescriptionPersonally this is a sweet add for me. This was the second time I read Iron Man with any regularity (after a stack of Silver Centurion books my bro gave me!) and was Kurt Busiek and Sean Chen’s back to basics Heroes Return run. Heroes Reborn was met with…let’s say…mixed reviews and many looked forward to how Marvel would bring those characters back to the main universe. Starting college at the time, i.e., limited funds and limited time, and not being into team books as much, I opted for Waid’s Cap and Busiek’s Iron Man. Really fun stories and I loved the art – check out my Kubert Cap pieces, too! There was a great mix of solid storytelling and big splashes...kinda like on this page!IMO Chen is underrated and should do down as a top Iron Man artist based on this run. He brought Iron Man back in grand fashion with a new #1 (a bigger deal THEN) and I dug the armor design - basically a modern version of the first red/gold one. You can tell by the points on the faceplate :) Here, got a great flying shot on the left - love all the intricacies of the head to the chest, no doubt enhanced by Stucker’s inks. Chen was on the book for 2.5 years, bringing back most of Iron Man’s villains, and wrapped up with “The Mask in the Iron Man”, a renowned arc for many where the armor becomes sentient. One request CAFers - if you see any splashes or covers out there from Chen’s run, let me know! Availability’s pretty slim to non-existent from my experience. Thanks! Social/Sharing |

AWESOME! I LOVED Sean Chen on Iron Man in Heroes Return. He is perfectly suited for IM. Huge Bravo buddy!

Wow this is a total winner. Such clean and crisp inks. Of course the splashy panel is very cool, but my eye is drawn to the middle panel on the right, with the different textures above the heads denoting the characters’ moods.

"Clean and crisp inks" is the same thinking when I'm through a piece like this. So lovely. And yes: Chen is absolutely underrated! He gave Iron Man a new, solid, classic style. Classic pick!
