DescriptionHalloween being a couple weeks away thought I’d close out this month with some thematic adds, starting with this late ‘90s beaut by Ivan Reis, my first piece by him!The Supernaturals was a fun 4 issue mini set in an alternate universe, where Brother Voodoo (BV) assembled a team of supernatural heroes to battle a coming…supernatural threat :) Story was solid, but what I remember most was the art, including this page. Also was that time where comic coloring was taken to another level, and it was evident in this book, albeit a little dark as I look back. But it was a “dark” book. Lol, I digress. But I was happy to add this page, from Black Line Fever! BV whips up a costume for Felicia Hardy, the Black Cat of this universe, while assembling the monster squad, including Werewolf by Night and Ghost Rider. Went with a twist on the black costume look for Cat, albeit she’s got the same powers as the traditional MU but with a mystical bent. And oh! I LOVE the Ghost Rider shot from issue #1, with Satana. See in additional images. If anyone’s got a line on it, let ME know! I showed this page to Ivan at NYCC last year…he got a kick out of it. From very early in his career, and he hadn’t seen a piece of OA from it in a long time :) Social/Sharing |

I've been admiring Ivan's work on the recent run of Detective with Ram V writing, and this page shows all the promise of great things to come from a promising young artist. Very nice!

Really great page! Awesome splashy Black Cat panel! And how fun to be able to share it with Ivan last year. Did he remember drawing it? I find that prolific artists with long careers don't always remember stuff they did years ago.

Yeah, he remembered, but it clearly had been a long time since he saw the comics let alone any art from the series! I had him sign both the book and the art. "Wow, a LONG time ago" he said :) Thanks, Paul and all, for the comments!

It's hard to believe that Reis has been a pro artist for around a quarter of a century already. Wow! But unlike many artists, he showed almost immediately that he was far more advanced as an artist than most other artists just breaking in. This is a great example of that. Thanks for sharing your story, by the way, I love that you were able to show Ivan this blast from his very long ago past. It's wonderful!
