Prelim for the cover to Moreta by Anne McCaffrey

I purchased this piece back in the 80's at a small convention in Georgia; Anne McCaffrey was the GoH and Michael Whelan was the AGoH. Michael had about 4 or 5 Moreta prelims on display, and this was actually my second choice of the prelims. My first choice was a very close view of Moreta leaning against her dragon. Bidding at the art auction was quite active at first for that piece but rapidly decreased to just 2 people in the room. I ended up losing (I was still a college student with little money to spend), and I found out later that the other bidder - who was sitting a few rows behind me - was Anne McCaffrey (which probably explains the somewhat horrified silence from the auction audience whenever I upped my bid ...) I was successful going for my second choice of the prelims, and Michael told me later that this was his prefered prelim for the book cover.
