Nice cover Fred. It would be very hard for me not to vote for Gil Kane as the greatest cover artist of all time.

Very cool. A great cover, last of the series, and by the artist who established him in the silver age....not many combinations better than that!

Kane's style did change a lot during these 224 issues. But one thing remains the same - his GL rarely looks at the reader ! Take this cover for instance, Kilowog, John, Katma & Arisia are looking at the page but Hal turns his head away ! For those who don't know, after issue 89 GL's adventures became a backup feature in Flash from issues 217-246. Again, after issue 224, GL's adventures appear in Action Comics Weekly from issues 601-642. Kane's last GL story appeared as a bonus in Series 3 issue 81!

Long before this, when I first started picking up comics, Gil was one of the first artists whose style I recognized as being distinct, so the fact that this cover represents the end of an era, the historical context aside, gives it an extra bit of pathos. Also, artistically, this probably one of the better GL covers he did during this era. So congrats all around on a fine acquisition.
