DescriptionI'm concluding my week of "Significant Spidey" posts with this beautiful and extremely poignant moment that ended the story "One More Day" and brought us right into "Brand New Day."Once again, Aunt May is at death's door (and this time it's the REAL Aunt May), after being shot as a result of Peter revealing his identity to the world during Civil War. After exhausting all other options, in desperation, Peter finally makes a bargain with Mephisto. Mephisto will save May's life if he can make it so Peter and MJ never married. Wow, what a romantic wet blanket Mephisto is, orchestrating the ultimate c--k block. As Mephisto explains earlier in the issue, "It's because yours is the rarest love of all --- pure, unconditional and made holy in the eyes of he who I hate the most. A love like yours comes but once in a millenia, and to take that away from him...to deny him...is a victory like none other imaginable." Geez, bitter much? Once Peter agrees to the deal, Mephisto messes with his head some more, causing Peter to want to attack. But MJ calms him with a heartfelt and passionate soliloquy about how they were meant to be together and how they will always find each other. Then they share their final kiss. Fade to black. Wow! What an incredibly powerful and emotional image. What I really love about it is that even though it's almost all black, what little that's illuminated is more than enough to convey the powerful emotions at play here. Just an incredible piece!

Oh, Mephisto, you scamp. What a scene. Just leaving the light sources makes for such a strong image. Very cool. Congrats, and thanks for the themed sharing!

Controversial moment. What's not so controversial? The artist portrayel of said moment! Quesada really kills it here. Outstanding storytelling, and emotive, to say the least. Love the use of shadow and how you get the figures trailing off at the end. So cool. A worthy end to "significant Spidey moments" week, Paul - congrats!

Poor Peter, he almost gets the worst of it all in the Marvel universe (second only to Hulk imo!). This is a beautiful piece.
