Description

Many years ago I acquired two interior illustrations by pulp/comic artist Jack Binder from the estate of early SF fan Jack Darrow (real name Clifford Kornoelje). I posted one at that time, and here's the other one. It illustrates "The Crystal Curse" by Eando Binder (the penname of Jack's brothers, Earl and Otto) and appeared in the March 1936 issue of Weird Tales.

As is well-known, WT was behind on paying authors at this point. Also in the material I acquired was a stat of a letter dated January 4, 1937 (so almost a year after the issue would have come out) from Otto to Earl, enclosing Earl's half of the half payment for this story that WT had just sent (they still owed the other half). Total payment for the story was to have been $100 (less the 15% commission of the Binders' agent, Otis Adelbert Kline).
