DescriptionMario Caria was a striking italian cover-artist who reached the best of his art in early 60s.For much part of his career he was engaged in illustrating the italian long run of King Features Syndicate's characters of the 30s, that's to say The Phantom (here "L'Uomo Mascherato"), Mandrake, Flash Gordon ("Gordon), Tim Tyler's Luck ("Cino e Franco") and Prince Valiant ("Il Principe Valentino"), just to name the most important. The Fratelli Spada publishing company, few time later printed all these series also in French and Spanish editions for the French and the South America markets. Hence the art of Mario Caria become very popular in these countries as well. In particular, a recent travelling exhibition of Italian comic art who toured some Europe Capitals and then in Argentina and Perù, was welcomed by a great audience and many people there recognized in the covers of Mario Caria the very same of those comic-books they were used to read when young. Though in Italy The Phantom was published since the 30s, in this series of the 60s the stories of The Phantom were not edited in chronological order, so that this is the cover the very first story of the character by Lee Falk and Ray Moore ("The Singh Brotherhood") and was included in this issue who was #67.
