Description

I love this because so much care was put into the cartooning of such a baffling gag and because it still evokes the same befuddled response I had as an eight year old boy: loving comics but struggling to comprehend the hermetic greaser humor of the Car-toons and Drag-toons mags.

Mankin, who obviously had skills, had a long career in comics and animation, through the Golden and Silver Ages, but this is one of the only two examples on CAF as of this writing.

What a great style that more than holds its own by today's standards. If he was working today, it would be considered retro chic.

I'll admit that the humor in these types of comics were like an alien language to me as a kid. On the other hand, I will, at some point (I know not when or how), steal the phrase "hermetic greaser culture."
