Description

If not for COVID, the 2021 Windy City Pulp and Paper Convention would be taking place later this week. While that won't be happening, we're optimistic that we'll be able to hold the convention on our revised dates of September 9-12, 2021.

So, I thought that this week I'd post some pieces that we've picked up at previous Windy City's. This one is by artist Harry Kirchner, and ran in the October 1937 issue of Street & Smith's hero pulp, "The Skipper," illustrating "Curse of the Skulls" by Laurence Donovan (writing as Wallace Brooker). The Skipper only lasted 12 issues in his own pulp (from December 1936 through December 1937), failing to match the popularity of his stablemates, The Shadow and Doc Savage. However, after his own title was cancelled, short stories featuring him continued to run in the back pages of Doc Savage until 1943.

Love the art here. Has an indiana jones feel long before that ever existed. Congrats!
