DescriptionBatman #447-May 1990 The Cold War was still very much alive with tension between the U.S. and Russia when this story was written. Batman goes to Russia to battle the Demon (a student of the KGBeast) who has plans to kill Mikhail Gorbachev in order to cause further problems. Seems appropriate for the time it was written and doesn't seem too far fetched for today's world either. Beautiful art by Jim Aparo featuring a stylized Batman in every panel. Social/Sharing |

Such a classic look on Batman. Really beautiful inks as well.

Aparo touches on the tensed brow, the shadow on the face, the wide cape in the third panel, and how the broad shoulders are covered by the smooth flow of the cape. They all add weight to the problem presented on the page. The book was part of the short run of Bolland covers and came out in 1990 in the wake of Batman '89, so major nostalgic ties to anyone around during that time.

The theme of the Cold War as it played out in comic book for I have always entertained doing as a symposia session at a military history conference. Might be time to finally write up that abstract. This storyline as you point out would be a great example.

There's nothing like Jim Aparo's Batman and you have many panels with great examples on just one page. Nice pickup!

Nice top to bottom panel page but I LOVE the stop right head shot with Bats almost wholly shadowed in - effective stuff! Congrats!
