DescriptionYou can go home again! The first time I met Adam Hughes back in January 1990 I asked him for a sketch of Captain America. He told me it was the first time he was asked to draw him at a con, to which I requested if he could write that on the sketch. He looked at me like it was a crazy request, but he obliged me anyway. This was one of my earliest con sketches and hung proudly on my wall for years. Fast forward about eight years later and I foolishly sold this and all my original art as my ex-wife was pushing me to sell most of my collections to fund a house we had bought. Of the art I had let go this one I missed the most! An early Hughes sketch, his 1st Cap con sketch and my favorite character. I kept a lookout for years for this piece, but I had lost the original buyer's contact info. I had acquired other Hughes Cap sketches over the years, but like they say you never forget your first. This art takes me back to a different time, when I was a fledgling collector in my early twenties, going to cons with my high school friends that I still meet at cons to this day. My life and career was ahead of me back then. Flash forward almost 30 years later and this same piece is posted on CAF. I was on the train to work and I immediately emailed the current owner on my phone. I told him how I was the first owner, how I met Adam for the first time, and how I had asked for the inscription. I was thrilled that he was very willing to sell it back to me. Thank you Brian for giving me the opportunity to reunite with this formative piece for me. Thank you again to Bill Cox for creating this platform where we can find our art grails! This piece brings back so many fond memories for me. I am glad it is finally back home.Social/Sharing |

Love the description, Rich - your elation at getting this super personally nostalgic piece is clear! You mention the trifecta - early Hughes, first Cap, fave character - yup, works for me! Sincere congrats on getting it back!
