Lots of Star Trek influence in the ship designs. Understandable as Star Trek was still moving along in the early 90's. With Monkeyman named Axwell Tiberius you can make the connection to James Tiberious Kirk as a Trek tie in as well.

I love the framing of the close-ups of our main characters and the way he uses lighting in the third panel. Also, the Trek-inspired spacecraft are fun to look at.
