DescriptionOriginal hand-drawn (penciled and inked) art for Smilin' Jack by Zack Mosley, for the Tuesday February 4, 1941 (2/4/41) daily strip. The artwork is in very good condition, with some slight production glue stains in the first and fourth panels, and still has the original 1941 News Syndicate Co. Inc. copyright piece attached in the third panel. This episode is titled "Jaxon Jitters", which is written in blue pencil at the top next to "S.J." The full page is large, measuring approximately 23" by 7" (which I believe is about standard size for most newspaper strip orig art). This is a great piece of original artwork from the long-running series that lasted approximately 40 years from 1933 (when it began originally as "On The Wing") through 1973. As one of the foremost aviation-based American adventure comic strips, nice examples of Smilin Jack are always desirable and sought after. A life-long flying enthusiast, Mosley always put his knowledge of aeronautics into the strip, and kept things accurate and current. This is a particularly excellent example, as it features Jack in all 4 panels, a huge splashy second panel with girls galore, and an appearance by the ever-popular Fat Stuff! The piece has been signed by Zack Mosley in the last panel.Social/Sharing |
