Description

Original hand-drawn (penciled and inked) art for Smilin' Jack by Zack Mosley, for the Saturday December 18, 1943 (12/18/43) daily strip. The artwork is in very good condition, and still has the 1943 News Syndicate Co. Inc. copyright piece attached in the fourth panel. This episode is titled "Ready To Talk", which is written in blue pencil at the top next to "S.J." The full page is large, measuring approximately 21 1/4" by 7 1/4" (which I believe is about standard size for most newspaper strip orig art). This is a great piece of original artwork from the long-running series that lasted approximately 40 years from 1933 (when it began originally as "On The Wing") through 1973. As one of the foremost aviation-based American adventure comic strips, nice examples of Smilin Jack are always desirable and sought after. A life-long flying enthusiast, Mosley always put his knowledge of aeronautics into the strip, and kept things accurate and current. The piece has been signed by Capt. Zack Mosley ("CAP AAF-A") in the last panel.
