Happy Halloween! Frank Robbins is one of my favorite cartoonists and I’m happy to add this end page from one of his House of Mystery stories to my collection. I love the expressions of the cat and the interesting page designs he uses throughout the story and of course the beautiful brushwork. I feel like Frank’s 70’s DC work is often overshadowed by his Marvel work where he did a long run on the Invaders. While the DC stuff was scattered among anthology books and a handful of issues here or there for me it is far superior to the Marvel work because he was able to ink it himself. As good as Springer and Giacoia were it’s clear that a lot of the eccentricities of Robbins’ style were being burnished off by passing the artwork through another set of hands. If you’re interested in Frank’s comic output definitely seek out books like the Shadow and the handful of Batman issues or House of Mystery he drew, you won’t be disappointed!

Beautiful full sized Black Cat with plenty of great panels interspersed! Robbins' ink work in the atmospheric first panel is amazing!
