DescriptionGetting a Zeck piece has been a long desired bucket item and this scratches one off the list! Got to meet Mike Zeck back when I was just a kid in the 80s and been a fan ever since. The Zipatone - brings me back to my childhood too as that was a common look back when I first started collecting comics. got an email from Chuck Costas (#1 Zeck fan) after I posted the art. Below is what he shared with me. Hey - wanted you to know this piece was actually inked by John Beatty which is why it has that classic 80’s look. It was done on spec around the time Zeck and Beatty were working on Secret Wars for a portfolio Zeck was going to propose to Sal Q Productions. But, it never came to fruition. There were four plates created - two were inked by Beatty and two weren’t. Personally, I think these unpublished portfolio plates are some of Zeck’s best Cap work. Congrats. Social/Sharing |

I checked this piece out up and close and personal at C2E2 right before the pandemic. I had a lot of crazy thoughts running through my head like "should I sell my motorcyle?" and "I do have two kidneys..." This piece is basically pinnacle Zeck and you're a very lucky guy to own it. Congrats!

Glorious zipatone! It's part of my nostalgia formula, too. This is peak Zeck with Cap front and center. It doesn't get much better than this. Big congrats!

Outstanding pick up D. I'm surprised given the M to F ratio, but wonderful addition.

This was done for a random Avengers portfolio? Man, I would've bought this thinking it was more likely done as an internal promotional piece for the Secret Wars maxi-series that must've been in the planning stages at the time! Anyway, brilliant piece of fabulous 80's Zeck art as he was gaining momentum and moving towards the peak of his abilities. Major kudos to you on such a wonderful score!

Missed this beauty the 1st time around. For me, Mike Zeck in the eighties was unstoppable. I love how he drew Cap, one of my faves.

PRIME Zeck example, man - huge congrats from a fellow huge Zeck fan. As you say, lotsa characters featured! The Avengers Trinity along with 3 others - yes! Reminds me a bit of Secret Wars...which is a good thing! And a huge piece too - must be a sight in person. And you gotta love some zipatone accents. OK. I think I'm done. Congrats again on checking Zeck off the list in a big way!
