Description

To help the new Doc Savage series get off the ground I offered to pay Joe Devito to paint the first two covers. This was before they had a publisher mind you. But I believed in Doc Savage and wanted to be a part of bringing him back.

Joe and I had already been friends for some time. I had been to his home to purchase The Frightened Fish Doc Savage cover. He had intended to keep it for himself but decided that I would give it a good home.

The next summer, Joe visited my home in the Poconos to look through Jim Bama's Doc Savage negatives with me. Joe casually mentioned he thought my daughter Jill was very striking and would make a great model. I agreed. After painting The Desert Demons, the next novel called for a female villian. "Jill would be WONDERFUL" Joe said. SO, several weeks later he returned with all of his camera equipment and lights and had a photo session with Jill which ended up being the cover of Will Murray's Horror in Gold Doc Savage novel. Joe is an excellent photographer. Being involved with Joe has been a great experience to me. He's a talented artist in several mediums. God Bless him.

Outstanding Painting Jack. Great realismand colors in in the painting. Better than I even anticipated and my sights were set high. I am aftraid that you might have to give this one to Jill instead of it hanging on the wall. Dwight
