The hordes of the Deathlok Nation continue to flood into our world, intent on killing Fantomex and protecting the super
soldier production facility known as The World…but why? With The World now infected by the Deathlok virus, and X-Force locked in heated battle with the most powerful warriors in the Marvel Universe, humanity’s hopes rest in the hands of one man, but who is Weapon Infinity?!

If ever there was a definition of a knock-down, drag-out brawl, then this issue is it. Uncanny X-Force #7 wraps up "Deathlok Nation" as the team searches for Father in an effort to eliminate the Deathlok threat. Rick Remender spends a few pages setting up the situation, but doesn't wait long before getting into the heart of battle.

Deathlok arrives just in time to save Fantomex who is being pursued by Deathlok Troopers that have stolen the World from Fantomex. Together they are able to steal it back from Captain America-lok and are picked up by X-Force. Deadpool immediately assumes Deathlok is like one of the other troopers but Wolverine vouches for him based on their previous experiences. Deathlok plugs into Captain America to get more information. They learn the Deathlok Troopers are from a future where super heroes have gone too far and have been hunted down and merged with Deathloks for their own good. Apocalypse had an architect, the Father, create Weapon Infinity (the Deathlok Troopers) to come back and kill Fantomex. Deathlok accompanies X-Force into the World to stop the Father which will eliminate the Deathlok Troopers. Once they enter Wolverine pairs off with Deathlok in search of Father. They are ambused by Wolverine and Deadpool merged Deathlok Troopers. Deathlok pops laser claws, similar to Wolverine's and takes out Deadpool while Wolverine struggles with himself. Deadpool is ultimately able to get to Father first and kills him, erasing the Deathlok Troopers from the timeline. Deathlok urges that Fantomex destroy the World to prevent any future misuse however Fantomex disagrees.

Remender adds a layer of depth that has become the norm for this series. More remarkably, he succeeds in making the reader sympathize with Deadpool – a feat that can only be equated to a lifelong vegan taking a trip to the Outback Steakhouse.

The action is gorgeously rendered by Esad Ribic and his art team, but the dialogue steals the show throughout the issue. Each battle is supplemented with narration from its featured characters, the most resounding of which is Deadpool's. After an entertaining exchange that pits Fantomex against Deadpool, the fan-favorite mercenary is left at the will of Father, who plays up Wade's apparent insecurities. It's a quick and dirty distillation of the character, but it succeeds in showing why he's got such appeal when he's done correctly. Remender has Fantomex call out Deadpool on everything that's annoying about him saying, "You can't win my friendship with your quivering stream of desperation-banter." Zing!

Ribic's work in the issue is surprisingly adept at playing up the emotional aspects of these scenes, even amidst massive fights and characters wearing masks. Much credit is due to inker John Lucas and colorist Matthew Wilson, as their thin, precise line work and emotive color palette plays a huge part in the way that Ribic's art reflects Remender's words tonally, if not in action.

Glad it went to such a good home. But I don't see any of the bend that you told you got in shipping. What did you do to remove it?

Yeah I washed out all of the color and played with the exposure. I'll add a pic that shows the bend. I still love it. I actually met Anthony Snider at Super Megafest today and looked at all of his Esad art. I was able to make a deal with him for a nice page. I almost walked away with the page from UXF 7 where Deadpool cuts of Fathers head.

Congrats on this cool conclusion page to a really well made series. Rereading it now and loving both the art and story.
