This is Jae Lee's variant cover for 2016's best-selling Batman #1. In the entire 77 year history of Batman, there have only been three comic books that have officially been labeled as Batman #1. The first was, of course, in 1940. The second was in 2011 as part of the New 52 initiative. The third Batman #1 was just recently published as part of DC's new "Rebirth" initiative. "Rebirth" has been highly successful across the DC line so far and, not surprisingly, Batman #1 has been a top-seller. A handful of variant covers were created to help celebrate the launch of the new Batman title, including this one that Jae Lee created as a Dynamic Forces variant. It's a striking image of the Dark Knight, about to go into battle against The Joker!
