SOLD FOR $40,382.22!

11-1/8x17.25" Marvel Comics artboard has Rob Liefeld's pen and ink original art for page 27 of "New Mutants" Vol. 1 #98, published by Marvel Feb. 1991. Art is from the debut issue of wildly popular antihero Deadpool, who has gone on to star in countless comics, video games, two blockbuster movies (w/the accompanying deluge of merchandise). Despite Deadpool's overwhelming popularity today, the character appeared on just seven pages in his debut issue. Art features three panels, top being dominated by large splash panel showing a bandaged Deadpool subdued and bound at the feet of New Mutants Cable (whom Deadpool had been sent to kill), Cannonball, Sunspot, Boom-Boom and Domino, who also had her first appearance in this issue. The second panel features a nice close-up of Cable and Domino, while the third panel spotlights Cannonball, Sunspot and Boom-Boom reacting to Cable and Domino's obvious chemistry. Top margin has penciled title and issue number w/inked page numbers. Bottom center has paste-over page number secured w/tape (which does not affect art). Artboard has small hole punch at center left margin and small file punch at center right margin. Neither affect art, which remains clean and Exc. An incredible example of Deadpool co-creator Liefeld's early '90s Marvel work. This page represents an amazing opportunity to obtain a rare and unique piece of original art from the debut issue of one of Marvel's most popular comic book characters. Privately held since shortly after publication, this is the first time this art has been offered at auction.
