A big thank you to Nicolas Marlet for being kind & generous enough to donate this drawing to the recent auction benefiting the National Cartoonist Society Foundation. I have admired Nico's character design work for years now, and I was quite happy & excited to be the high bidder on this piece.
How To Train Your Dragon is one of my favorite movies ... the scene of Hiccup drawing in the sand by the lake and Toothless joining in is absolute pure magic for me. I am also fond of the characters Astrid & Stormfly, and I have a friend who jokingly calls me Astrid because of my Nordic heritage, general demeanor, & love of dragons ... all reasons why this is the perfect Nico drawing for me.
