DescriptionWhile his style is unmistakably his own, I have to say that my real hook to Rafael Kayanan's art was when he launched his Conan the Adventurer series and proclaimed his direct undiluted artistic lineage to Barry Windsor-Smith (and, by the way, to Tim Conrad as well). At last! I cried... BWS having built such graphic foundations for the comic book version of REH's larger-than-life tales may have been intimidating enough for most artists to revisit. But then, Rafael Kayanan came on board. Helped, no doubt, by stories set in the early years of Conan's career, he boldly integrated all the familiar regalia of young Conan (including helmet and necklace) and put them back in action with a sense of recklessness that had not been seen in the series for years (decades?). And the visions he conjured, the relentless drive of the page... Look at this one: the bottom panel is pure, absolute BWS! What a thrill!... Social/Sharing |

great page action and powerful inks - love it !!!Thanks Adom! Rafael comes from a long tradition of Filipino artists, like Redondo and Alcala, who are not only very original artists, but also have a distinctive mastering of their inkwork!
