Description

Right after this year's Windy City and Paper Convention, I was contacted by a guy who owned three pulp cover paintings. His father used to work for Charles Francis Press in NYC from the late 1940's to the early 1970's as a commercial artist. One day in the late 1960's they were cleaning out their storage room, and had a roll of paintings for trash. His father went through them and took the only two he found of bi-planes -- the father's father and uncle were in WWI, and the father always liked the stories of WWI aviators. He also liked one of the western paintings in the batch, so he took that as well. But why couldn't he have taken them all! There's no telling how many were tossed into the trash!

All three paintings were for Fiction House pulps. Apparently Charles Francis Press must have been FH's printer for a few decades, given that these range from 1932 through 1950. If they're still around, someone in NYC needs to visit them and ask to go through their storage rooms!

I bought them and I'll post all three on CAF. This one is by Rudolph Belarski, for Wings November 1932.

Stuff is still out there in odd places!
