Description

Olivier created this in the spring of 2020 for one of the comic book store fundraiser auctions (remember those?), and I remember thinking it was an absolutely beautiful piece.  I hadn't seen him do as much with colors at that point, so this was something special, from the way the background colors contrasted yet blended together, to the way he drew her body language and facial expression.  Rogue is known to be a physical powerhouse of the X-Men, but the quiet determination on display here felt different, as she ties her hair back to ready herself for what's next.  And while she's in her Savage Land outfit, she isn't posed seductively but rather more naturally (and her proportions are less idealized).  Olivier has drawn Rogue plenty of times over the years, and I think this is the best image of her that he's done yet.  I missed out on this when it first went up for auction, and I'm glad I was able to finally add this to the collection.  It arrived framed, and maybe I'll update the scan with the raw art if/when I reframe it, but for now, the scan is of the art as matted/framed.

Thanks to Josh F for the assist with the scan!

Coipel's artistic mastery soars in any form with the inclusion of fully painted work like this.  There's no limit on what can be achieved!

A lovely SLR from Coipel and created for a worthy cause at the time. Congrats on getting it the second time around! I think that soft white/pink line matting actually fits the piece perfectly too, looks great.

Thanks, Kavi!  As for the matte, I had to take a closer look during the day to respond in full, but the beveled edges on the matte are actually teal/blue.  The matte itself is definitely more of a soft white like you mentioned, though maybe closer to a cool blue white than a warm pink white (the frame/bevel colors are throwing me off).  Either way, the blue bevel is not what I would have originally picked, but it's really grown on me, so I'd probably keep that if I reframe it (the white matte, I'm less sure about, but it does look good as is).

Ahh gotcha, it's hard for me to see properly in the photo/scan plus I'm color blind anyways so me getting the exact color wrong is no surprise to me lol. It does look good either way and it's an awesome piece
