Description"You were promised fireworks... enjoy the snow."I've been wanting to pick up an original piece of artwork by Pepe ever since I read House of X, but since he mostly works digitally, there are very few originals that exist, save for the occasional cover. I picked up a monoprint from House of X and am excited to finally add an original of his to my collection. I had actually intended to pick up one of his Black Cat covers but when this cover unexpectedly became available, I immediately jumped on it. It features my favorite X-heroine (Rogue) front and (off-)center plus some other favorite X-characters in Jean and Storm (and Magik's there too). And I love that this has the Hellfire Gala costume designs that Russell Dauterman put together/inspired (so amazing to see his rise from his Supurbia days). They look stylish but also have nods to previous costumes or character moments- Rogue's outfit has elements from her dress from her first date with Gambit; Jean's body armor is like a mix of her Marvel Girl, Phoenix, and 90s costumes; Storm looks like a queen/goddess with storm clouds as her cape (because, of course she does); and Magik has floating fabric Darkchylde horns. I wish this also featured Emma and Psylocke/Kwannon in their Hellfire Gala outfits, but it's already an embarrassment of riches here. And in typical Pepe fashion, he really captures the personality of each of these characters through their expressions and posture, despite the fact they're just standing around on some stairs. The artwork also included a prelim (printed out on multiple pages of paper) that was taped to the back (presumably for lightboxing). I half-expected it based on some other collectors' experiences with his originals, and it's cool to get another artifact from the creative process. Thanks, Miguel, for your patience and flexibility! Spectacular piece! As you said, Larraz's originals are tough to come by, and this is a highlight among even his stellar covers. Congratulations! Very, very cool.

Outstanding. Larraz is one of the absolute best new talents in recent years and pieces like this are why. So much presence to this piece. Great depth as you move left to right or vice versa, and the tone work is tops. Congrats!
