I loved Fables when it came out, and Fairest was the last spinoff series that the title had before its (first) end. This particular issue was my favorite out of the whole Fairest run- it's a noir story set in the 40's that features Beast (of Beauty and the Beast) as he's chasing down an evil snake lady monster. I also loved the art by Shawn McManus- his cartoony style seems like it would clash with the noir setting, but I thought it was a perfect pairing (especially for the emotional ending twist).

Adam Hughes did all the (main) covers for Fairest, and this is easily among my favorites from the series. It's (literally) dripping with all the classic noir elements to match the story inside- the beautiful woman posed seductively, the fedora hat, the revolver- mixed in with lots of blood and a creepy snake. I remember seeing this on CAF before (though I forget who owned it) and was disappointed I wouldn't get to own it. So color me surprised when I saw this on auction. I'm really excited to finally get to own this cover, and it's also my first piece by Adam Hughes, which is another box I can finally check off. It also came with a print of the colored version that was published, which is included in the additional images.

Sensuous and yet sinister. Adam Hughes has painted a classic Noirish Femme Fatale with a sinister twist. First we notice the beautiful woman lying provocatively naked, holding a gun and dripping blood from her mouth. Only then do we see the coils of the snake wrapped around her torse to hide her true form. Beautiful cover with a scary twist.

This is a beauty Kin.

Adam Hughes uses the lighting within this piece to lead us directly into her eyes and then to the weapon in her hand.

Just an amazing piece of art.

Thanks, Victor! I would've liked the other Psylocke pinup too, but if I could only get one, this was an easy choice.
