Description

I love superheroes as much as any person on this website, but I also like to collect art featuring real people as well. A few months ago, I purchased this cover showing American soldiers landing in Normandy on D-Day (June 6, 1944) by my friend Russ Braun. Russ usually works only in pencils and does his inks digitally, but for this piece, he did the pencils and inks on the boards. The cover was colored by the amazing Paul Mounts for publication.

This piece will be the new variant cover for an issue of Sam Glanzman's COMBAT series on the Normandy invasion.

Russ is a good friend whom I have known for years and one of the most talented storytellers in the medium. He's been in the industry for decades (with a stint in between at Disney Animation) but I don't think most comics fans know how good Russ really is. He works frequently with his close friend Garth Ennis, and does a great deal to enhance Ennis's amazing scripts. More importantly, Russ is one of the nicest and most trustworthy people you could ever hope to meet.
