DescriptionThe popularity of superheroes declined after the war so that by the end of the 40's only DC's big three remained (Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman). In 1954 the company not yet called Marvel decided to try reviving their former big three (Human Torch, Submariner and Captain America). Simon and Kirby got wind of that and wanted to show how Captain America should be done and so they created Fighting American. The Nazis were gone but this was the height of the cold war so the Commies became the bad guys. Well the timing was still not right for superheroes, both revivals did not last long and a few more years would be needed for the start of the silver age of comics.Social/Sharing |

Dymanic title splash, Harry! Depth, movement, killer pure illustration...this one's got it all, as they say! Congrats!

That's a really cool Golden Age splash combining the thrill of hot rod racing and introduction of the next patriotism based hero by King Kirby! Right off the bat, Kirby wanted us to see the action was going to be more advanced than anything else on the market!

"No, Speedboy, I said to drive AROUND the cars! Don't drive between!!!!" Fighting American! Wow, what a sweet splash. Loved this Simon and Kirby work, even if it didn't take off. You win the race!
