DescriptionGolden Age KirbyHow much romance can a guy take? With dialogue such as this–?? “I wasn’t just a throaty voice in a clinging gown! I was a woman in love–with a giving heart and soft, eager lips!” And in terms of the art, Kirby delivers with embracing and/or kissing in all but the last panel. Look at all the little storytelling details he drew into this page: the lean of the bus driver and the flying rider-bodies, hats, and hair in panel one; the guy restoring his suitcase in panel two; the black background of panel three, highlighting the foreground clutch; and the bemused face of the passenger sitting behind the suddenly amorous couple in panel five, as well as Buddy’s surprised-off-the-back hands in the same panel when Stormy re-kisses him. In the 1940s and 50s Simon and Kirby’s Young Romance put romance comics on the map. This page is from the story “Just No Good,” and - in my opinion - it is the best page of the fourteen-page lot. Early Kirby is special, and the penciling and inking - and likely the writing, too - on this page are all courtesy of the King. Thanks to Bechara of Nostalgic Investments! P.S. Quiz Question: Can you spot Stormy’s leg? Hint: Give panel two a close look. Social/Sharing |

Holy cow! I love how horny this page is! Stormy is one flex away from having her ankle over the bus driver's shoulder.

What the hell--! Where did this absolute knock out of a rare Kirby romance page come from? Bechara you say? How did I not know about it!?! I will have to have a word with him... but meantime, BRAVO.

Any words from me are insufficient to describe how stupifyingly epic this page is... everything about it is amazing. Hail fellow, well met.

I love the expression on the face of the background guy in the next-to-last panel. He's obviously seen this all before and seems suitably jaded. However, I think it's impossible to be too jaded to love this romantical piece of Kirby goodness. Big congrats Mark!

Fabulous page by Jack Kirby! I've never paid much attention to romance comics--or the art done for them--but this kind of makes me want to rethink that. I love the the way Kirby filled this page with panel after panel of hugging and kissing from every possible angle. And then he embellished it with thick black inks, making the page really come to life. It's fantastic!

Stunning Kirby Romance page! Man, this page is so hot I'm glad I never saw it when I was a teen. I had to settle for Playboy.
