DescriptionKeeping March going with ‘80s panel pages from books that take me back to younger days. Here, the Thundercats! My big show as a kid at that time. When I found out there were Thundercats comics I was ALL about it. They were bi-monthly for the first 8 issues so you didn’t see them that often, which actually made the series easier to collect. Also, I could open up a spot for another book on the off months :)This page is from issue 11, which I distinctly remember picking up from the comic store. Main reason was that the cover price was $1.00, as opposed to the $0.75 I was used to seeing – a 33% markup! Even my 7 year old self knew that was a pretty stout bump. See covers of issue 10 and 11 in the additional images. Regardless of the $0.25 increase, you know I had to keep it going, like I’ve had to do many, many times in the years since :) Got the whole team here! Lion-O up top, Panthro in panel 3, Cheetara and Tigra in panel 4, Wilykit and Kat in panel 5, and Snarf closing it out. They come upon and subsequently get into a fight with the Molemen, led by Commander Rix, the “HIM!” Snarf is referring to in the last panel. I like the page mostly because of the nice shots of Lion-O up top, and that he’s using his claw shield. Cheetara’s confidence, too, as we know she had it like that in the show. Fun stuff by Jose Delbo and with ink assist by Brett Breeding, again, from a book I remember picking up off the shelves. Delbo drew 10 of the 24 issues of the series so I associate him most with the book, followed by the late great Jim Mooney who did 7 issues. Also was lucky enough to nab one of Delbo's covers a few years back – check out here if so inclined: https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1472280 “HOOOOO!!” :) Social/Sharing |

So nice to see how much fun you're currently having tracking down pages from your younger years! The page has nice clear storytelling and I really like how well Breeding solidified Delbo's pencils, giving it a slightly more realistic look than you'd expect from an animated feature adaptation. Really good character content, too. Keep it up, man!

This is Snarfin' great! And I remember well when Marvel hiked a bunch of their titles from 75 cents to a dollar. It led to me dropping the Spider-Man books soon after McFarlane's run began. Every quarter counted when I was 11!

That was a legit price bump, right?! Might've been my first sticker shock experience, lol! Every quarter ABSOLUTELY counted! Thanks, Michael, and all, for the comments!

"Thunder! Thunder! Thunder!"
So cool to watch you gather pieces from your childhood. It almost feels like gathering the infinity stones or something! Destiny in the confines of the glorious mergings of pen and dry ink. Congrats!

Ha ha, thanks! Would be cool if, once I gathered enough pages, i.e., stones, I could snap my fingers and instantly bring ALL the rest home to daddy :)

These cannon fodder mole guys weren't going to get anywhere attacking with flying back scratchers. Delbo and Breeding gave these comics a higher level of refinement in the depictions to match the cartoons as opposed to other licensed properties under Marvel.

Ah, the Thundercats....good memories. What a great page. I have to admit though, I was disappointed when I zoomed in and there wasn't a "snarf- snarf" in that panel with Snarf, lol.

Lol, that would've been the capper, huh?! Mayhaps an overlay word balloon I can add? I guess as I read though the page I can cap it off that way in my head. Wait - it's gotta be out loud. With my best voice impersonation. You did that already didn't you, Tim? ;) Thanks, man!

Love the 2nd panel in particular. The comics were much better than the show! And really well drawn! Congrats.

Oh how I love the super clean pencils of Jose Delbo coupled with Brett Breeding's super clean inks. And you've got the entire team battling the Rats of Nimh --- who have pooper scoopers! (Lol, Andre.) But seriously, really wonderful Thundercats page. Always nice when a piece brings you back to younger days. This hobby keeps us young, I'm tellin' ya!

Thundercats! Thundercats! THUNDERCATS! HOOOOOOO! Yeah, boy, talk about nostalgia. LOVED this show. I totally used to attack my friends with that goofy little toy sword, too. Right after I looked through the pommel at them first. :) And what a sweet page from Delbo and Breeding. Great find, Kahlil. Congrats!

"Sword of Omens - give me sight beyond sight!" I know you said it with CONVICTION, too, J :) Loved the show, loved the figures (had Lion-O w/ Snarf, Slithe, and the Tuska Warrior), and of course the comics :) Thanks, man!

Why was this cat always calling everynone a ho? He wouldn't get away with that today ... unless maybe at the Oscars. Great page - I didn't collect these issues but I can tell the content is strong based on the show. And the art is really well done - Delbo is underrated. Congrats - thanks for sharing!

Lol, way to keep it topical, bud! And yeah...I've been looking into more of Delbo's work and there's some nice examples out there for sure, particularly from his work on Wonder Woman. And Breeding inked many a penciller of the day. 2 names we need to hear more! Thanks, man!

Beyond cool! Was a big 80s ThunderCats fan, too. I do have a page from that series. By Jim Mooney. It has Cheetara as its focus but also has most core characters from both sides. I'll try to post it on CAF soon. Hoooooo!
