DescriptionMy first published post of 2024 and this is a biggie for me. One of those big items on the checklist that you’re ecstatic about making happen, and maybe a little relieved that it got done. A nice example from the first 7 issues of Excalibur, featuring at least a few of the team members. Pickings are slim…But here it is! Check it out! From issue 2, part of that first arc featuring the Warwolves. Got 4 of the 5 team members, only missing Kitty. And one of them is Captain Britain – probably the first character I think of when I think of Alan Davis. And a leaping Nightcrawler! AND “EXCALIBUR” written big and bold in the dialogue box in panel 6. I mean, as I’m writing this…it’s all here. I remember picking up Excalibur #1 as the cover was so striking (had to go back later for the Special Edition), and immediately liking it. Had a more mature bent than other stuff I was reading, and I dug that aspect, even if I didn’t specifically realize THAT was one of the things I liked about it. I was 9, lol. But the Davis/Neary art, too…the cover was striking but so were so many more images throughout the books, and how they were all weaved together into some perfect storytelling. If there was one published Davis example I could have it’d be from Excalibur. And I got this in a 4-way trade at a Heroes Con! How cool is that?! Other parties…you know who you are :) Thanks, gents! I believe I’ll be seeing you all in a few days at OAX – looking forward to it! Social/Sharing |

Awesome back story and beautiful page! Love Alan Davis and it doesn't get any more classic than this. That center panel of Nightcrawler steals the show for me... it feels like the rest of the page centers around it.

Wow this one has it all! Early issue, great team shot with team exclamation!, Nightcrawler, and some four way action to make it happen? This is a beautiful interior page. I'm pretty sure it meets Dino's FALCON requirements and then some! Big congrats KG!!

I'd think so, T! If mean, if not, it's super close. SuperHERO close. Sorry, that was bad. And yes! X-calibur x-clamation was a big draw with this one! Thanks, man, and all, for the comments!

Way to start your OAX week with a 4 way trade. I can't wait to see what you pick up this weekend as this will be hard to beat.

Man, I want to know what 4-way ends with a comic art door prize... All jokes aside, excellent page!

I always say that I don't have a favorite artist, but if I did, it would be Alan Davis! Excalibur was one of the first comic series that I was able to start buying at #1, and these pages are are burned into my memory forever. Great acquisition, sir!

Appreciate that, Travis. I agree...how can you have A favorite artist?! There's too many good ones! BUT we do have that "if we had to answer" answer, right? Mine's Zeck. And no surprise that yours, along with many others, is the master AD. And late '80s was the time when I was first making to comic shops myself, at least periodically. And this book was one of those I was adamant about keeping up on. Thanks for the add!

Where they at?
If you want to go Heroes con with me
We 4-dealing in show floor's Eranga D
Oh wow could I have this page? (Hey, inks by the Neary)
If you want to get sketch art with me
Smoke a L in the back with Fisch Benz-E
Oh wow Davis feel this way. (Hey, must be the KG!)
In the club on the late night, crawling right
Looking, trying to spot something real nice
Looking for A Davis story I noticed so that I can take home
(I can take home)
She can be X-Team (Brit team) with an attitude
Or extreme, not with Kitty, acting real rude
But as long as you a freaky-freaky-X girl you know that it's on
(Know that it's on)
I peep something coming towards me on the con floor
Mercy on deal shown
Saying I was peeping and I dig the portfolio
"So when Neary, can we go?" How could the trade be no?
The measurements were modern times standard size bristol board
I like the way you brush inks here
And I like those stylish clothes you wear
I like the way the light hits Excalibur
And I can see you, bamf, from way over there

Ha ha, you outdid yourself again! This just FLOWS, baby.
"The measurements were modern times standard size bristol board" :) See?!
AND you got a couple other OA boyos in there. And yes, I made sure to share in case they didn't see :)
Thanks, Marcus!

X-Men art is the most desirable by fandom!!! Pages like this one explain perfectly the reason why. I particularly like Nightceawler! To have him in the middle of the page makes it very special! When a mutant says "let us be about our bussiness" it is wise to obey. Huge congrats Kahlil.

Oh and she says it with that stare? And the WAY she says it?! Check out the balloon design around that lettering. Yes...best move along my friend. Rachel don't play :) Thanks, Toni, glad you dig it!

Yowza! A sensational page of the highest "X" caliber! (sorry... :) ). Filled to the brim with beautiful Davis people, including (as you point out) that fantastic panel of Nightcrawler popping in to say hello. Great panels of CB, Meggan, and Phoenix, too, and the storytelling is never lost or muddy, even in the crowded space of the tube station. Really impressive! (This Davis guy is pretty good!). MEGA congrats getting this one crossed off your list, K! It couldn't have been easy, but it was worth it: an amazing add! (Have a -GREAT- time at OAX, all!)

KG- I love this page.. and it wasn't going anywhere but to you. Dynamic page.. the nightcrawler center full body connects the whole thing... and such an early declaration of we are Excalibur! Perfect. Congratulations!

MUCH appreciated, man. It was fun working this deal out, but it all depended on you willing to move the piece over to me. It's in good hands, brother...love it and look at it a lot! Thanks, again!

The leaping Kurt in that central panel is enough to make this a great page but, overall, these early Davis pages are really special. Congrats.

It sounds like this awesome page got to the right home. Huge congrats on this almost complete original team beauty. So much to enjoy and see in this early Excalibur.

Great page. Multiple team shots and that middle panel! That would check my Nightcrawler box for quite some time.

I've been involved in some 3-ways, but never a quad. Wow! That's even more impressive than the art itself, and that is indeed very impressive! From the 2nd issue, too? Congrats, man, a real coup for you!

Dude! This page has so much going for it, but I can't stop looking at that team shot in the sixth panel where CB even says the team name! Iconic!

Davis and Neary are one of those artistic dynamic duos that I always marvel to look at their art. This is a spectacular page with so much early Excaliber goodness going on. Major congrats - this is obviously special to you - happy to see it posted in your gallery.

Excellent, historically representative piece by a couple of master storytellers on their seminal work. Great images of all the team members, with a central panel focused on the Elf himself. Hard to beat this pickup!
