Description

This is probably the issue in which I discovered Rick Leonardi's art and the one that had the most impact on my younger self.

The story by Claremont, although some didn't like the X-Babies title, was really good, albeit with a different feel from the X-Men.

The art is truly impressive and so is the inking by the great Bill Sienkiewicz.
On this page, you can feel Magneto's distress because of his unability to help his students after their encounter with the Beyonder. It goes through his facial expressions and wrinkles (his black suit also emphasizes that), as opposed to Emma Frost white immaculate skin and expressions.

Bill Sienkiewicz masterfully captured the simplicity of the treacherous black and white duality of the two characters, after all, the White Queen was a full villain at that time and Magneto, no longer one.

And the cigarette smoke (and balloons placement) in the last panel that so aptly leads your eye, it's absolute perfection to my eyes.

Most times I hate when Bill inked other artists (Aparo, Buscema were the worst cases) but this page is beautiful, especially the first 2 panels, congrats !

I kind of associate Leonardi and Simonson together with that angular, almost naturally kinetic style...like here. Perfect for cartooning! Clearly a tense conversation and that's a beautiful Emma headshot in the upper right. Congrats!
