25 1/8" x 19 1/2" with 3/4" tape on the border.
Published April 5th, 1988.

Grendel is a long-running series of comic books originally created by American author Matt Wagner. First published in 1982 by Comico, Wagner later moved publication of the series to Dark Horse. Originally a noir comic in the style of European titles such as Diabolik, it has evolved into, in Wagner's words, a study of the nature of aggression.

In July 2023 Bill Cox did a live show with Grendel creator Matt Wagner.

This was the apex of pieces available during the show.

I reached out to Jim Warden (Matt's main man) to inquire about the price, more details on the piece and how I could bring it home.

Slow forward to January 2024 when the art arrived at my house. Ink and pastels never looked this glorious!

Grendel is in my top 5 of "non-superhero" comics I read as a teen. The art and story hold up to this day. Highly recommended!

The art is massive too! I shared a photo of me holding it for comparison.

Congratulations on a terrific vintage Matt Wagner painted cover! Thank you for including such a nice photo of the original artwork; I never got to see this one in person and it's so cool how the background figures pop on the painting!

Congrats! The Tommy Nuncio story was an effective exercise in paranoia. I love the scene where Tommy finds Grendel on the fire escape.

Oh I was on the show where you were mulling, man...and saw when you decided to do it! So rad how the mask is in the red, and provides a nice contrast to the character and his scene on the right. And framed now! Big congrats, man!
