DescriptionTwo Shots Fired...SHOT #1: In 1988 Alan Moore fired a shot from the pistol of the Joker in the Killing Joke that changed the life of Barbara Gordon forever leaving her paralyzed. It was the end of a legacy, there seemed to be no coming back from this...until John Ostrander created a new character from the ashes of the Killing Joke...The Oracle! In Suicide Squad #23 we are introduced to The Oracle and find out in issue #38 that the Oracle is in fact, Barbara Gordon. SHOT #2: In 2011, 23 years after the Killing Joke, DC decided to relaunch the DC Universe with The New 52. Since then, they have undone most of it with Rebirth. In the New 52 they decided to do something that I wish they hadn't, they undid The Oracle and gave Barbara the ability to walk again turned her back into Batgirl. I really wish they didn't do this... 1. There are so many Batgirls already, and in fact I really loved Stephanie Brown and Cassandra Cain in those roles. 2. The Oracle was such a valuable, cohesive part of the Bat Family. 3. The character of the Oracle brought so much dignity and pride to those who may have suffered a trauma or disability and tells the narrative that you can still go and and do even greater things. I feel as though they undid this powerful character by rebooting Babs. Just my thoughts :) I really hope they bring her back. Social/Sharing |
