| Q: | Which piece in your gallery is your favorite and why? |
| A: | Alright, here we go...I am finally getting to this portion of my CAF membership. My favorite piece in my collection at the moment is my Michael Turner Cannon Hawke #1 cover. Mike's work was so influential in my collecting years, and I have a huge bias towards his gorgeous pencils. I have a few other pieces that I'd call "Grails" as well, but this piece art artist hits my 'nostalgia' button--since I am a 90's kid. |
| Q: | Please tell us a little about yourself. |
| A: | I am married with children, and being that I am the only male in the family, am on an island when it comes to collecting comics and comic art. Even though I have made numerous attempts to get the girls into it, I end up failing in the end. However, I have switched my tactics lately to, "What pieces do you like? This one is worth 'X' dollars. Maybe I'll leave it to you when I'm gone." That seems to be working... :) |
| Q: | How long have you been collecting comic art and what prompted you to start? |
| A: | I've been collecting comic art since around 2005 but more seriously since 2010. I had to wade into this hobby. It's pretty overwhelming and takes a lot of trial and error. If I can remember correctly, I realized (probably via eBay) that there were sketches by artists that I loved. I began searching eBay for these artists and began adding some pieces (mostly sketches in the beginning) slowly. My Michael Turner Batman sketch was one of my earlier pieces. The sketches began the obsession and my collecting turned towards published pages and covers. I love this hobby and all of my fellow collectors. I also need to mention Felix Lu, who's podcast has really opened up my eyes to this hobby and has taught me how to turn my comic collection into an art collection. This hobby is very expensive and sometimes I need to be creative and sacrifice some pieces to obtain others. |
| Q: | How do you display/store your collection at home? |
| A: | I store much of my collection stacked in Mylars and Acid Free/PH Buffered Full Backs. I have a few pieces framed, but I generally would rather spend my money on new pieces of art and tell myself that I will frame more pieces down the road. But there is always a new piece that takes my money and framing is put off for another day. |
| Q: | What are your top five most wanted original pages or commissions? |
| A: | Let's dream a little... 1. Michael Turner DC or Witchblade Cover 2. Any Jack Kirby Cover 3. McFarlane Spider-man Cover 4. Batman Death in the Family Cover or page 5. Jim Lee Batman Cover Definitely a lot of 90's artists here :) |
