DescriptionJim Lee announced that he would be coming to my local comic convention in July of 2022, and I instantly knew that I'd love to meet him and possibly pick up my first ever Jim Lee artwork. However, since the convention marketed his appearance as a Jim Lee Signature Event, I figured the original art quest would have to wait and so would the meet and greet, since I generally don't get creators to sign comics anymore, and I also tend to avoid the main convention bottlenecks. I ultimately decided to pass on getting to meet him, even though it would have been an amazing experience.Fast forward to the day of the convention, and we were being herded into the building like the cattle that we were, when I looked up and saw the one and only Albert Moy walking in through the doors. I was so excited to see him and talked with with for a few moments. I think I asked him if he brought any original art, since we rarely get the bigger dealers in Denver, and to that he said no, but that he brought some Jim Lee art!!!! Oh boy... my convention strategy just changed and I knew I could be in trouble. For the past year, I have begun accepting the fact that the proverbial "Jim Lee Original Art" ship has sailed in my life, as prices get higher and higher. I went directly to Albert's table, looked through the portfolio, got some guidance from Tony Fleecs and Jason Wood (unbeknownst to him) and decided on this end splash page. While I couldn't afford a Superman Splash...Overman was my next best get. So much emotion in this page, and a great Elseworlds story by Grant Morrison. Albert couldn't have been nicer, and since I purchased a piece of art, Albert made it possible for me to get my picture with Jim Lee during his few hours that he attended the convention, saving me a few hundred dollars and the nightmare of waiting in the signing line. Thank you, Albert and Jim. It was an amazing experience. Social/Sharing |

Lee killed this image and you chose wisely. The Williams+Morrison topper means you win all the jimmies.

The picture with Albert smiling was the prize of the trip. This Jim Lee / Scott Williams splash is special too as they somehow are able to put so much anguish on this broken hero that you can feel the weight that brings him to his knees.

CONGRATULATIONS Johnny!!! It's a really cool image, and I loved reading about your trials and tribulations getting the page.

Great piece of art and maybe an even better story, Johnny! Nice shadows in the figure, and that provides a sweet contrast to the detail on the rest of the figure, and that background! Congrats, man!
