Description

18.5" x 13.75" by Michael Carroll. Original acrylic painting on illustration board. Circa 1991.

A popular painting by Carroll. He describes the scene, "At the edge of the universe lie the quasars. At ten billion light-years distance, we are literally looking back to the beginning of time. Here a rock arch on a distant planetoid beckons the viewer like a portal to the past."

Aside from being a popular poster, this painting was used as the cover for "The Year's Best Science Fiction: Fourteenth Annual Collection" and "Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine of April 1997".
