Thanks, John! Shit, even Ford fans would admit that is the worst casting suggestion EVER! 😂😂😂 ![]() I don't know. From the brief trailer footage I saw, I think an elderly Ford has more testosterone than the character the actor they cast. Thankfully, we have comics like your page that can't f up the character. |

I love that classic, overhead "in the corner of the room" point of view shown in the first panel, as it's a very visually engaging perspective shot. But from purely a storytelling decision making standpoint, it was an odd choice for Carmine to use it again immediately in the following panel as well. I loved chatting with Infantino during the one and only time I got to meet him in person at a con in New York during the early to mid-2000's. It was clear that he loved talking about art and how to tell a story much more than havign to reply to "I love your work!" for the millionth time. I would have loved to have had the opportunity to show him this page, just to ask him about that decision making process that went into using the same pov in the 2nd panel as he did in the first. Congrats on the nice pair of Nova pages, John! ![]() Thanks Ruben. That would've been quite memorable to discuss that with Infantino. There's much going on so the overhead perspective shows the reader the magnitude of the moment in a God's view. |

JUPITER FROM IO WITH SODIUM AURORAE Owner: Neon Dragon Comment posted on 4/6/2025
Kavi H said:
I have to disagree with Ruben here (shocking I know!). The point of the piece is to look at Jupiter while being on the surface of one of it's moons, IO. So if you just get rid of the bottom 1/6 the piece is just "Jupiter", which while still cool and looks photo realistic against images from space/satellites/space telescopes we've seen - is kind of boring by comparison IMHO. I like the perspective here from IO. Perhaps one day humans will land astronauts on that moon safely somehow and see a view like this for all mankind! ![]() I agree, Kavi. Sorry Ruben. You wouldn't see the cool Sodium gas effect without standing on the frozen ground of Io. The sodium cloud appears like a jet extending from Io away from Jupiter and tilted down with respect to Io's orbital plane. |

I recognize the style (From the faces) as being from one of the 2nd tier Filipino artists who primarily did work on these DC mystery titles for a while and never worked beyond that. As to why it exists, I can think of two possibilities. One, the script for this page was given to the artist (perhaps primarily/only an inker and was asking for pencilling work) as a tryout. Or, perhaps whoever drew this was given the job of doing it andfor whatever reason the editor wasn't happy with it and had Alcala redo it instead. Either way, it's all guess work at this point. ![]() Thanks Ruben. I agree. I was thinking this was either a tryout and/or so horrible, the editor asked Alcala to do it. Seeing how fast Alcala was, it was probably a tryout to then have Alcala do it and see the comparison - a massive void between the two levels of workmanship! |

Kind of loose and the line widths are much heavier. Maybe someone in his studio did it during a crunch. Either way, this mystery will haunt you . ![]() Update. Look at the published one. Same story but it's not mine and is definitely Alcala. |

I think Alcala penciled this and maybe apllied 5 min worth of inks. Someone else did the rest. You can really see that in the way the woman is inked in the fifth panel - AA didn't use those kind of brushstrokes with his self-invented modified Chinese pen-brush. ![]() I don't know who did the page I posted and bought but there is a different version that was published. It keeps the same story but it definitely shows Alcala's hand in the published one. |

Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight #49 Page 19 BATMAN, CATWOMAN & CATMAN Owner: Neon Dragon Comment posted on 3/19/2025
Ruben DaCollector said:
Excellent observation! Russ Heath's composition is absolutely masterful here. The tall, narrow panels enhance the sense of verticality, making us feel like we’re scaling the building alongside the characters. His use of deep blacks and multiple techniques to create various textures on the building's facade, adds a noir like intensity that's perfectly suited for Gotham’s atmosphere. The fluid motion from panel to panel, especially the way Batman and Catwoman descend while Catman ascends, creates a dynamic interplay that feels very cinematic. Fabulous!
![]() I couldn't have described it better, Ruben! You've got a gift in your perception. |
