Description

Here's a very dated, but still funny Bloom County daily from when the NFL was on strike on 1987.

To parody the NFL strike, Bloom County creator Berke Breathed created a storyline where the Bloom County characters went on strike and replacements were brought in. This strip is from the end of the story where the strike is now over, but a NFL replacement player still shows up looking for a job -- in this case to replace Bill the Cat.

I bought this directly from Berke Breathed's company in 2007 and received a nice note from Carolyn Breathed that I had purchased the strip exactly 20 years after its publication.

Hahaha, I remember this story line! And hey, a job as Bill The Cat isn't too bad at all, right? Just sitting around, occasionally saying "Ack! Thbbft" ... Definitely more fun than being a bouncer. Thanks for sharing this one.

Very nice pacing of the humor to build up to the third panel for the Bill imitation! The scab players got nowhere to go after the USFL folded in 1986.
