DescriptionAlex Raymond's Rip Kirby 31.5.1954 daily from the story "Stark Night of the Soul", published in this book:http://loac.idwpublishing.com/shop/rip-kirby-vol-4-1954-1956/ To get this artwork framed in the same style with my small collection of Raymond's Rip Kirby originals (with diecast model cars, the cars which Raymond used in Rip Kirby) I needed now a pipe! ;-) And it took quite a lot studying and double checking dimensions from several dailies, however this artwork offered a very good example. And so now daring to say that the pipe which pipemaker Adam Schorcht (https://www.facebook.com/adam.schorcht) made for me is the most accurately done Rip Kirby -style pipe! I really like using floating framing for original artwork. "Normal" framing, meaning using passepartout on top of the artwork is fine for printed materials (in general just keeping the art away from touching the glass, for avoiding that picture would "burn" into the glass. And anyway the same amount of archival pH-neutral tape is need in both framing styles, to hang the artwork). This floating frame, I hope, is more honoring the artwork itself, presenting it as whole and remembering how it left artist's desk when went to printing house. Using also museum glass there, it is almost without any reflections, so you can not see it, it is like air! Really hilarious feeling when trying to take the pipe and and hitting your finger into the glass which you don't see! ;-) For those who have never seen Raymond's Rip Kirby originals, to give an idea about the dimensions, the pipe is 15cm long and IDW's book is printing this strip in 245x66mm, the actual inked artwork is 4-times bigger (circa 505x135mm) Social/Sharing |
