DescriptionThanks Andrew and Paolo at Cadence Comic Art! Absolutely delighted to add this stunning page to my collection.Like many people, I was more than a little bit excited when it was announced in April 2018 at C2E2 during the Batman panel that Joëlle Jones would be writing and illustrating a new Catwoman series. (“The crowd went wild!” reported Bleeding Cool from the room.) No one had seen it coming. Just a few days before, Joëlle had tweeted a seemingly innocuous WIP detail including a cat, innocent enough surely, given she was illustrating Batman? Nothing to see here, right?! It was only from the cover of Catwoman #1! The first issue was due out on July 4th 2018, the same day as Batman #50 when Bruce and Selina were of course due to marry, but we were told to read Batman #50 first to avoid any spoilers... Well, we all know what happened next, but let’s not talk about that. More importantly, Joëlle’s Catwoman #1 (with awesome colourist Laura Allred) absolutely nailed it, completely justifying all the pre-publication hype. It was purrrfect. (Sorry!) "I had come off of writing Lady Killer, and [DC] contacted me to be in a class and I jumped at the chance," Jones said at the Batman panel. "I wasn't an experienced writer and not really interested in writing at all -- it was just a means to an end, really. In the class, I wrote one issue of Catwoman, and they really liked my take on her. I really like embracing the dark side of her. They jumped on it, and said, 'Why not do a pitch for a series?'" And I think it’s safe to say that we are all delighted she did! ComicBook.com’s 10/10 review rating was absolutely spot on, with the reviewer concluding: "Regardless of your thoughts on Batman #50, or even if you don't care about that issue's events, you absolutely need to add Catwoman #1 to your pull list. This debut issue is a breathtaking, intriguing start, one that equally works as a standalone story and as a larger part of a greater love story. Jones' graceful narrative and art could very easily stand the test of time, and definitely give this iconic DC character the ongoing series she's always deserved." DC Comics' July 2018 Solicitation for Catwoman #1 Copycats, Part 1 – "The wedding night’s barely over, but Catwoman’s back on the streets, this time to expose a copycat who’s pulling heists around Gotham City. As Selina cracks the whip on her former criminal cohorts, she’s attracting unwanted attention from one of Gotham’s most dangerous groups. The mob? Nope. Try the GCPD. And as if the Bat-Bride didn’t have enough problems, there’s an all-new villain determined to make trouble for all nine of Selina’s lives. Don’t miss the start of an all-new monthly series written and illustrated by Eisner Award-nominee Joëlle Jones!" Social/Sharing |
