Description

So I was actually buying some art from Koch Comic art and had picked out a couple of things that I wanted when I decided to look at the Tom Sutton page. Over the years I learned to enjoy Tom's work more and more. I have one page that is Tom pencil and inks but decided to have a second page. This page was inked by Don Lomax. It was an inexpensive page but very trippy. The amount of work put into this page is incredible. Having never actually followed the series I looked it up and the series was a back up series and then given the entire issue of Satrslayer #27.

That is as far as I looked into the history, but the middle panel rivals Ditko's other worldly stuff.

Imaginative and bold in the tone of horror for a sci-fi tale. It shows the level of diverse stories First Comics was doing for a quality indie! Tom Sutton's art definitely satisfies by dialing up the detail and the severity of tension in weird frights.

Recently I bought and read Tom Sutton's reprint collection "Tom Sutton's Creepy Things" and fell in love with his imaginative artwork and wild storytelling. Before that, I was only familiar with Sutton through his fill-in Doctor Strange issues, and I never realized how prolific he was. This page reminds me of the mind bending layouts that Alex Nino did for DC horror books. Love all the attention to detail in the inking!
