A fantastic sketch of Giant Robo by Akihiko YAMASHITA.

Yamashita san is a legend to all (serious) anime fans for his participation to many great series, movies and oavs.

But to me, his masterpiece remains the Giant Robo oavs serie. Great writing, splendid animation that remains consistent throughout the serie despite huge planning problems at the time, tons of Easter eggs and references to the original Mangaka’s universe.

Yamashita san was animation director, key animator and most of all character designer on the serie (and even storyboarded most of it). So meeting him during the 2018 Made in Asia festival was a great moment. I had to ask for a Giant Robo and he was delighted by my choice and the rare artbooks and limited edition of the serie I brought for him to sign. He told the serie remains his favorite work he has done in his stellar career.

I believe the result speaks for itself. Done in marker.

This is insanely amazing! Giant Robo is fantastic and this is such a great sketch from Yamashita!
