DescriptionHistoric first app prototype of Sgt. Rock...pencilled and inked back in 1959 by Joe Kubert. This is a prime example of Joe Kubert war art goodness. Historical perspective of a young artist's early work on what will become a career-defining character (Thanks ML) Great to see our hero being called "The Rock" on this page. I love owning a piece of history, and this page fits the bill. Social/Sharing |

A really great stand alone page too, in addition to the historical perspective of a young artist's early work on what will become a career-defining character. Really cool!

Thanks bud. Your description is better than mine. I might add it to mine.

it's Wrestlemania weekend so the main "The Rock" I am concerned with right now happens to be an international movie star who gets in the squared circle from time to time, lol, but I do appreciate seeing this historic "prototype" for one of Joe Kubert's most celebrated works/characters appear in your historic collection. congrats Jordan!

Wow, this is such an amazing piece of history! Joe Kubert’s work really shines through here and the level of intensity in the art is incredible. This is such a unique and rare find. The way Kubert captures the emotion and atmosphere of war through his pencil and ink work is timeless. And as you point out, seeing the character called “The Rock” for the first time gives it even more significance. Thanks for sharing this, Jordan, and congratulations!

Man against machine! The human spirit will never yield! Such deep emotions tapped by Joe Kubert ushering in the war hero into the silver age!

Many congrats, Jordan, on such a historic page! Kubert had a unique - and wonderful - style all his own.

Like a rock, standin' arrow straight... Like a rock, chargin' from the gate... Like a rock, carryin' the weight... Like a rock!
(Ahem, with apologies to Bob Segar)
