Description

�� My love for the Phantom started when I read the Lee Falk novel The Story of the Phantom as a teenager. The first Phantom was the sole survivor of a pirate attack on an English ship. The son of the ship's captain dedicated his life to the fight against piracy and criminals. Each son followed in his father's footsteps. The Twentieth marries an American woman and his son Kit Walker is born in the jungle. He sends the boy to his aunt (his mother's sister) and uncle to attend an American school. The uncle is displeased until Kit remembers to give him the bag of jewels from his father. The boy becomes a scholar, sports star, and local hero until his Bandar friend Guran arrives to bring him home. Kit arrives to see his dying father and takes the Oath of the Skull. He emerges from the Skull Cave as The Phantom, aka The Ghost Who Walks and The Man Who Cannot Die.

�� Mike Manley offered a number of strips in his the-monsterman eBay shop and I went after this one for the first panel of Diana Palmer on horseback. Kit met Diana in America when they were both young children. He goes on to save her life and they become college sweethearts where they are both star athletes. I had been looking to get the Phantom on his horse Hero, but am happy with this one.

�� I first met Mike over 20 years ago when he was doing some Batman Adventures comic books. I have a couple pieces from those days and one Samurai Jack page. I heard he had taken over drawing duties on the Phantom and am happy to buy these from him.
