Description

Happy International Cat Day! I'm celebrating by sharing a scan of one of my thematically appropriate animation cels! From the second season Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Fred Wolf Films) episode "The Cat Woman from Channel Six," here's April O'Neil in her Cat Mutant form! In this scene, the mutated reporter is trapped inside a cage and cowers at the sight of a mouse (not included in this cel package).

This is a painted acetate cel layered over a printed background. In this case, the the supplied background is different than the episode context, seemingly just a non-descript wall instead of a warehouse with scientific equipment. These cels were sold framed in mats and protective plastic sleeves at various toy and department stores throughout the early 1990s under the "Animation Art" label. This cel was scanned after being removed from its plastic sleeve, resulting in greater image clarity. Also attached is a screencap from the Fandango at Home digital copy, showing the approximate cel in its final form at around the 12 minute, 33 second mark.

Kids may not have only wanted the turtles in the cels, but an April in this mutated cat version may have a stronger cult following.
